It went better than the episode would suggest

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

We’ve posted Episode 11 of the show, and now that Thanksgiving has actually passed (we recorded before Thanksgiving), I feel like there was much more worry and doom and gloom in the episode than actually came to pass! I certainly prefer it that way to the opposite situation, I suppose.

Yay Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

There were some warnings from Jakob on the show (you’ll hear it Sunday, I think) about some people not showing up, but so far lots of people are here and helping.  It really makes me feel awesome about living here when everyone is chipping in.  Speaking of, I should get back and actually chip in!

Thanksgiving Planning

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

We’re going to have more people than ever at Thanksgiving this year! I’m really excited about it.  Everyone getting together, putting aside differences, eating good food, and feeling thankful for what we have is a great way to spend a holiday.  No guilt.  No fighting.  No anxiety around presents.  Just good food and friendship.  I love my birth family, but there is just no beating my chosen family.

It isn’t the case for me, but lots of people around the nation choose Thanksgiving as a sort of National Coming Out to the Extended Family Day.  Everyone is there, and you can’t get accused of ruining Christmas.  There is certainly a sort of logic to it.

I’m Thankful that I get to spend my holiday with people who I care about and who care about me.  I’m Thankful that I don’t have to hide.

They dragged it out of me

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

So, as you’ll hear in our most recent podcast I said a little more than I had intended to say.  Don’t worry, I got name and story consent from the, uh, individuals mentioned (note to them: You made an awesome trip all the more awesome.  Thank you!)

Back in town

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I arrived last night and collapsed into bed when I got home.  I was exhausted last night, but I’m feeling great this morning! I’ve got a couple of tutoring appointments during the day today and then we’re recording the next episode this evening.  It will probably feature my trip, because I had so much fun that I can’t stop thinking about it! Seriously, if you haven’t had a chance to do so before now, check out RawBanana.org and get the “Ernest” book and then keep watching for “Gawain” :)

I think I finally understand the ages-old debate between the “it’s art!” and “it’s filth!” camps.  Most of the erotic stuff I’ve been exposed to so up to now has been pretty firmly in the filth category.  There is certainly nothing wrong with filth, and I enjoy a good filth viewing as much as the next chap, but there really is a difference between your typical porn and stuff that is really intented to be art, as well.  Do you have any favorite erotic art?

Another episode, and I’m still down here

Monday, November 17th, 2008

It’s weird having another episode go up while I’m not around; we recorded it before, but still… Anywho.  I’ll be back at Kanawi in time to record the next one.  I’ve having a fantastic time down here, but you’ll have to wait for episode 10 to hear the stories :)

I have noticed that I miss everyone quite a bit.  I didn’t suspect that I would, but I really do.  I’ve heard it said that you really need to spend time apart from those that you love in order to have time to reflect on that love, and I guess that there might be something to that…

Quick: Piles of Fun!

I’m having a great time down here in Cali.  Just logged on real quick to say hi and let everyone know that I’m going to have some great stories to tell when I get back to Kanawi to record the next podcast.  Talk to you again soon!

Off to the Bay Area!

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I’m taking a flight tomorrow down to the San Francisco Bay Area to take a long weekend to help some friends with a photoshoot for their new… graphic novel? Not really sure what to call it.  It’s like a graphic novel in that it is an illustrated story, but in this case the illustrations are actually photographs! You can find (and buy!) their last one at http://www.rawbanana.org/   It was an illustrated reinterpretation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Ernest.” As you might be able to tell from picture on the page, it’s not your typical version of the classic work.  ”Sex! Costumes! Fun! Romance! Fun! Cucumber Sandwiches!” Good stuff, indeed!

Their next book is a new translation of the old Arthurian tale “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.”  They’ve described it to me as “much more fetish-y and much more gay” than Ernest.  I missed the change to participate in the last book, so I made sure that I had enough cash around to fly on down there at least one weekend and get involved.

Wish me luck! Or, I guess, wish that I break my leg? How does one phrase that?

Chatting with Jakob

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Jakob (who we called SF before) has given us name consent… and has also sat down to record with us! I’m very excited about it, and I think he’s got some stuff to say that people will find interesting.  Hopefully we’ll get the show edited and up soon.  I’m glad that Will is back this week and helping with that, because it was not a fun process!

In general, I hope that we can get more community members on the show.  I see these people every day, whether it is at meals or out and about on the property in the mornings or the evenings, but I’ve noticed that we sometimes get caught up so much in the world around us that we forget to reconnect as individuals.  I think that having people on the show is a great way to do that, and I hope that this process sparks even more conversation off the air.  Together, we’re a community, but we’re all still just people.

A little late getting it up

Monday, November 10th, 2008

The podcast, I mean.  I have a new appreciation for the work that Will does as our sound engineer.  Regardless, my chat with Shake is available now.
